Abstract
A 60 year-old man was admitted to our hospital
because of lower abdominal pain for 1 month. A
round, firm and tender mass was palpable at his left
lower abdomen. Liver scan with 99mTc-phytate was
done. On the conventional anterior view of the scan
we could not find spleen, but left anterior oblique
¢¥ew of lower abdomen showed a round photon
ake with a central defect at lower abdomen.
bdominal CT of the patient showed remarkably
omogeneous mass of that area. Because of ag
avated abdominal pain and fever, a laparotomy
r:,
done. His abdominal mass was proven to be an arcted spleen by biopsy.
wandering spleen is an unusual cause of an
abdominal mass. Many patients with wandering spleen are symptomatic early in life. However, it can remain asymptomatic into adult life. Although ultrasonography and CT may suggest the diagnosis, liver-spleen scintigraphy is diagnostic.
